Aicha Toure: Rayograph (The Kiss)- Man Ray

Rayograph (The Kiss), 1922 - Man Ray Man Ray- Rayograph (The Kiss)

This image was taken in 1922 by Man Ray. When you first look at the image you see two people kissing but as you look deeper into the image more starts to reveal itself. Hands are also present in this image. As I look at this image, it makes me feel like there are two people that are madly in love and is in a way "devouring" each other. It is as if they can't get enough of each other. The hands on the left person's face is more vivid compared to the ones on the right person's face. When searching up this image I seen that this photo was done using a light sensitive paper and as I look at the picture it all starts to make sense. The two people are together and can't keep their hands off of each other. The hands can fade in some places and move in others but then also be bright in other parts. Aside from that, there is also some kind of division in middle of the image that in a way connects both people. I find this part very interesting and I want to understand why he made that choice. Was it to say that they are empty without each other? Looking at the image, I really like the creativity that Man Ray put into this photogram. It tells a story yet leaves us with a mystery.
